Privacy Policy

This policy describes what SpecCourt actually does with data, in plain language. It applies tospeccourt.com and every page on it.

Summary

  • There are no user accounts, no login, no comment system and no contact form on this site. We therefore hold no profile about you.
  • We run no third-party advertising, no analytics scripts, no social plugins and no cross-site trackers.
  • Fonts, styles and scripts are served from this domain — loading a page makes no request to Google, Meta or any advertising exchange.
  • The only thing stored in your browser is a one-word preference recording that you dismissed the cookie notice.
  • Our hosting provider processes standard request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) to serve pages and block abuse.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you give us

If you email us — for a correction, a pitch, a programme enquiry or a privacy request — we receive your email address, whatever you write, and any attachments. We keep editorial correspondence for as long as it is useful for accuracy (for example, a correction thread attached to a guide), then delete it.

1.2 Information collected automatically

Like every website, our host logs each request. That log typically contains your IP address, the browser user-agent string, the page requested and the time. Logs exist to deliver content, keep the site online and stop abuse. We do not use them to build advertising profiles, and we do not combine them with any other data.

1.3 Information we do not collect

We do not collect names, postal addresses, payment details, precise location, biometric data or any special category data. There is nothing on this site that can process a payment.

2. Cookies and local storage

This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. One preference value is stored in your browser's local storage:

Storage keyPurposeRetention
speccourt.cookie.choiceRecords whether you accepted or declined the cookie notice so it does not reappear on every visit.Until you clear your browser storage.

Your hosting provider may also use strictly necessary security mechanisms (for example a bot-mitigation cookie) when it inspects a request. See the cookie notice for details and how to clear the storage key.

3. Third parties

  • Hosting and CDN. This site is served from a global content delivery network. Request data is processed by that provider on our behalf, including transfers outside your country, in order to deliver the page.
  • Retailers. Product links lead to retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, B&H Photo Video, Walmart and Newegg. Once you follow such a link you are on that retailer's site under its own privacy policy. Retailers may set cookies to attribute an affiliate visit. We receive aggregate commission reports, never your identity or your order details.
  • Email. We handle newsletter subscriptions by hand in a mail account. We do not use an email marketing platform, so your address is not shared with a bulk-mail processor.
  • Legitimate interests — serving pages securely, preventing abuse, and answering the correspondence you send us.
  • Consent — storing the cookie-notice preference. You can withdraw it at any time by clearing the storage key.
  • Legal obligation — retaining records where the law requires it.

5. How long we keep things

Server logs are rotated by the hosting provider on its own short schedule. Editorial email is kept while it is relevant to a published guide, and deleted when it is not. There is no other stored data to retain.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests end in a short conversation about what exists — usually just an email thread. Write to privacy@speccourt.com and we will respond within the period your jurisdiction requires (30 days in most cases). If you are in the EU or UK you may also complain to your national data-protection authority.

We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use personal information for behavioural advertising.

7. Children

This site is written for adults choosing consumer electronics and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because there is no backend application, no database and no login, there is no stored user data to breach. Email correspondence is protected by our mail provider's transport security.

9. Changes to this policy

If we add a feature that changes what is collected — a newsletter platform, an analytics tool, embedded video — we will update this page and the cookie notice before that feature ships, and change the "last updated" date above.

10. Contact
